More →Coinbase calls on the UK FCA to adjust its crypto asset regulatory rules.
Coinbase Europe policy lead Katie Harries wrote that the UK Financial Conduct Authority's (FCA) proposed crypto asset regulatory rules may require regulated platforms to execute client orders only on trading venues authorized by the FCA, thereby restricting users from accessing decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols through compliant platforms. Since decentralized protocols generally do not have an entity that can apply for regulatory authorization, the relevant rules may make it impossible for regulated platforms to do so, creating a de facto ban. The relevant crypto regulatory regime is expected to take effect from October 25, 2027.

Risk-off sentiment drives the yen to outperform major currencies, analysts warn against overinterpretation.
As global stock markets suffered a sell-off and risk aversion intensified, the yen outperformed all major currencies on Thursday. Traders and strategists noted that domestic Japanese fund flows also provided support for the yen. The yen rose as much as 0.9% against the dollar to 156.69 per dollar, its strongest level since late September. The yen rose as much as 1.1% against the euro, approaching its highest level in nearly a year, and also gained about 0.5% against the Swiss franc. As major stock indices in Asia and Europe fell and U.S. stock index futures moved lower, long-term institutional investors bought the yen. A fresh round of disappointing earnings from technology and artificial intelligence-related companies weighed on market sentiment, while escalating tensions in the Middle East pushed oil prices higher, further dampening risk appetite. Strategists noted strengthening demand for Japanese government bonds and signs of buying by domestic Japanese funds. Some strategists said these factors may be helping the yen outperform other G-10 currencies, though more evidence is still needed to determine whether such flows are becoming a sustained source of support for the yen.
