UK Trio Jailed Over Home Invasion in Failed Crypto Theft Attempt

Three men who forced their way into a man's home in Bristol, England, and assaulted him in a failed attempt to steal >cryptocurrency have been jailed, Avon and Somerset Police >said on Friday. Terroll Paul, 31, Mohamed Samagassi, 37, and Pierre Madzou, 30, broke into the victim's home in the early hours of May 15, assaulted him and demanded he hand over a large amount of digital currency. He was hit over the head, suffering a substantial injury that required hospital treatment. Three men who broke into a man's home in Bristol and threatened him in a failed attempt to steal cryptocurrency have been jailed. Terroll Paul, 31, Mohamed Samagassi, 37, and Pierre Madzou, 30, were sentenced yesterday (15 October).https://t.co/gQf1FuZiY6 — Avon and Somerset Police (@ASPolice) October 16, 2026 The victim's teenage sister alerted police, and all three men were arrested at the scene. They pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary in August, and were sentenced at Bristol Crown Court on Thursday. Paul, of Barking in London, received six years in prison, Madzou, also of Barking, five and a half years, and Samagassi, of no fixed address, five years. The victim's sister showed "extreme bravery," said PC Gemma Childs, the investigating officer, adding that her actions led directly to "the apprehension of the offenders and preventing her brother from further harm." In a statement read in court, the victim said the break-in had changed him. "Before, I was bubbly, talkative and outgoing but now I would describe myself as tense and apprehensive," he said. The police did not say how much cryptocurrency the men demanded. The case is the latest in a run of so-called "wrench attacks" in the UK, in which criminals target crypto holders in person. In February, three teenagers were jailed over a $4.3 million wrench attack robbery caught on police video in London, while last month a $10,000 reward was offered after a West Midlands couple was attacked in a crypto home invasion. TokenMaxxing: How to Get the Most Out of Your AI Models

Bain & Company consultant Jue Wang sees a quieter version of that waste everywhere: "So many companies, so many users, default to using Opus for everything, including generating emails," she >told the Associated Press this summer, referring to Anthropic's high-end models. If you do the same thing, you're hiring Albert Einstein to calculate your change at a MacDonald’s. Every word you type into ChatGPT or Claude, and every word it writes back, is metered in >tokens, chunks of text that average about three-quarters of a word. On a $20 subscription that meter decides how fast you hit your usage limit. On the API, the pay-per-token access developers use to plug models into their own apps, it decides the bill. GoPlusSecurity: Qubic weak seed vulnerability led to 1,404 wallets being stolen, with losses of approximately $1.3 million.

According to CoinWorld news, GoPlusSecurity reported that the Qubic platform suffered a weak seed vulnerability attack between October 17 and 18, resulting in the theft of 1,404 Apple platform wallets and losses of approximately $1.3 million. The attacker exploited the official web wallet (webkit / javascriptcore) on the Apple platform, where generated seeds used math.random(), and offline enumerated all 2^32 possible pseudo-random seeds, matching 1,404 funded wallets and stealing 2,939,606,531,944 Qubic (approximately $1.3 million). Qubic subsequently initiated a protective shutdown, and 87.1% of the stolen funds have been frozen on-chain, while the remaining 12.9% was transferred to MEXC, and the receiving accounts have been frozen. Qubic has released version v4.26.4, switching to crypto.getrandomvalues, and affected users should update promptly. The common feature of the 1,404 affected wallet addresses is that the seeds were generated by the official Qubic client under a weak entropy environment.

Sam Altman's World launches a human identity verification tool to help banks guard against $40 billion in AI fraud risk.

Coin World news, Decrypt reports, Sam Altman's World company has launched a set of tools called World ID, aimed at helping financial institutions confirm that there is a real person behind transactions, trades, and customer requests. The tools include three types of cryptographic proofs: "Proof of Human," which confirms identity through one-time access to a World device; "Proof of Presence," which uses a mobile phone selfie for liveness detection; and "Proof of Attribute," which confirms nationality or age from a government ID. These tools will help banks require verified human approval for ACH and wire transfers without collecting documents or storing personal data. World has also launched the AgentKit developer toolkit, allowing users to delegate certain proofs to AI agents for transactions. In addition, World ID has integrated with Zoom, where participants can receive a "Human Badge" after verification during a video call. According to World's data, more than 18 million people currently hold human identity verification, and the World Foundation raised $52.5 million this year to expand the network.
