Google Wants Gemini to Be Your Next Coworker—Complete With Its Own Email Address

Google Cloud introduced a universal AI agent for the workplace on Thursday, one it says can take a goal, go off and do the work, and return with the finished result. CEO Thomas Kurian presented it at the company's Gemini at Work event, saying that "work now starts in the prompt window." The product, simply called the Gemini Agent, works inside Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Chat and Calendar, and also reaches into Microsoft 365 and Slack. Google says it keeps running in the cloud after you close your laptop, so a single task can stretch across hours or days. The most interesting feature is what Google calls coworker agents. A manager describes a role, such as events coordinator, and Gemini creates an agent with its own Workspace account: an email address, a calendar, Drive storage and a listing in the company directory. This is similar to what other agentic frameworks have explored. For example Grok popularized it with Grok Bot, OpenAI did the same with GPT dots, and Hermes introduced its bots feature offering the same functionality. The new agent connects to Salesforce, ServiceNow, Jira, Snowflake, BigQuery and any server that speaks Model Context Protocol, an open standard that works like a universal plug between AI and software. It also runs on more than Google's own models: Gemini currently orchestrates across Gemini and Claude models from Anthropic, routing each job to the one Google considers the best fit for quality and cost. Letting software act on its own raises obvious safety questions, and Google's answer is to treat each agent like an employee. Every agent gets a cryptographically attested identity, a digital ID verified through cryptography, and every action lands in an audit trail attributed to the agent rather than a person. All agents run inside an Agent Sandbox, a walled-off environment meant to keep software away from the rest of a system, and all their traffic passes through Agent Gateway, which Google describes as an "AI network firewall." Containment has failed before: in July, researchers at Accomplish AI reported that the local mode of Claude Cowork could escape its Linux virtual machine on Macs and reach files on the host computer. Cost is the other worry, since agents burn through tokens, the chunks of text that AI models read and write and that customers are billed for. Google says nearly 500 of its customers each processed more than one trillion tokens over the past year, and it added real-time spend caps: when a project hits its limit, the agent pauses until someone clicks to resume. Google did not publish pricing or a general availability date for the Gemini agent. The financial services and lega

BofA strategists: Investors are piling into cash-like funds, and the preference for holding cash is hard to change.

According to news from Bijie, Bank of America strategist Michael Hartnett said investors are putting money into cash-like funds at the fastest pace since the COVID-19 pandemic, and a shift is unlikely in the short term. In the week through October 7, money market funds attracted $166.4 billion, the highest level since April 2020. Hartnett pointed out, "No rate cuts, no reducing cash holdings." The bond market expects the U.S. to raise rates three more times by the end of July next year, with the next increase likely at the December meeting. Hartnett also mentioned that a sharp decline in cash holdings is usually accompanied by large-scale monetary easing. Current inflation is driving global interest rates higher, and stocks face competition from bonds and cash, with the latter offering attractive yields and greater safety. Bank of America data show that in the most recent week, bonds received $33.8 billion in inflows, while stocks attracted $12.4 billion.

S&P 500 Hits New Highs, but Hidden Concerns Lurk Beneath the Surface as AI Giants Mask Broader U.S. Stock Weakness

According to foreign media analysis, U.S. President Donald Trump has long regarded stock market performance as a referendum on his governing record. Although the S&P 500 closed at a record high this week, the rally was mainly driven by a small number of companies benefiting from the AI boom, masking increasingly visible signs of fragility in the U.S. economy and financial markets. With less than a month to go before the midterm elections, the stock market performance that Trump sees as favorable to Republicans may actually become a political liability. As far as the stock market is concerned, share prices of companies in the consumer, travel, transportation, real estate, and financial sectors have fallen one after another. Over the past month, the median stock price performance of S&P 500 constituents was about a 4.3% decline. However, the strong performance of Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, and the entire semiconductor industry has obscured the reality of weak performance across most sectors of the U.S. stock market.

Analyst: Bitcoin price flashes hidden bullish signal, faces 96% problem

According to CoinWorld news, BeInCrypto reports that Bitcoin (BTC) is trading near approximately $82,300, up about 28% over the past three months. A hidden momentum signal on the daily chart suggests the uptrend may still be sustainable, but purchases by long-term holders have dropped 96%. Between September 2 and October 8, Bitcoin formed higher lows. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) slid from about 65 to 47, showing lower lows, a combination known as hidden bullish divergence, indicating that the pullback has not broken the uptrend. Despite increased selling pressure, volume on October 8 was still about 18% smaller than the October 2 peak. Glassnode's metric on net position change of holders shows that after peaking at 25,734 BTC on September 20, it fell to 1,051 BTC on October 8, the lowest positive value in three months. Analysts believe that a daily close above $83,325 would be the first step, while a return to $88,086 could attract holders back.
